Skills / Requirements

The Supplemental Patient Safety Monitor (PSM) supports the provision of quality patient care and safety under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) by providing continuous 1:1 or group supervision of patient(s) that have been identified as having risk for: injury to self or others, elopement, falls, or dislodgement of essential lines or tubes. The Supplemental PSM obtains verbal report from and delivers verbal report to the assigned nurse and patient safety assistant (if applicable) and documents sequential events and reports significant changes or observations to a RN. The Supplemental PSM also provides comfort measures and assists with patient care activities that do not interfere with the primary role of continuous/group supervision. The Supplemental PSM has excellent interpersonal skills, good written and verbal communication skills, and a positive customer service attitude.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent, CPR/BLS certified by the American Heart Association.

Six Months Related Experience In a Home/hospital Environment Preferred.

Demonstrates the ability to provide a safe patient environment and effectively communicates observed changes in patient behavior/activity to a Registered Nurse.

Special Requirements

Communication Skills: Above Average Verbal (Heavy Public Contact), Bilingual skills preferred but not required, PC and Mathematics

Work Schedule: Weekends, Holidays, Flexible and Overtime

Basic office and bedside equipment (PC, telephone, nurse call system, bed, bedside table, etc.)
