The Stat-Chek Company was founded by Elsie McFarling in 1963. Elsie was a nurse and recognized a need for doctors and nurses to communicate patients needs. Stat-Cheks were originally placed on medical charts in hospitals and nursing homes, but were found to be useful for other applications. Soon Stat-Cheks were being used in Retirement Homes to help keep track of residents. Retail stores and warehouses began using Stat-Cheks for inventory control. Stat-Cheks have found many uses on offices as visual reminders.
