Shilac Enterprises, Inc. was founded in 1990 by Yuji Funai, and whose entity ranges from importing, exporting, and distributing various medical products to consulting, financing and marketing various international companies. In the early 1990's, Shilac began importing, exporting and distributing medical equipment specifically for the industries in plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as anesthesiology. By the mid 1990's, the company had established Shilac Japan, Inc. in Osaka, Japan, and merged with a manufacturer of medical and scientific refractometers. Shortly thereafter, Shilac began production of refractometers under the Shilac brand, and began marketing worldwide.
