Under the EU's ERASMUS programme, the Hochschule Niederrhein cooperates with 65 European universities and higher education institutions. The Hochschule Niederrhein also acts as a strong structural factor for the region with its applied research and development. Its priorities are: Environmental Protection Analysis and MonitoringPlastics RecyclingCleaning Technology "With a Heart and a Mind," the Hochschule Niederrhein attaches importance to giving its first-year students a thorough introduction to the university and academic life. Students learn in small groups, which ensures that graduates can advance quickly and smoothly into their aspired career. Courses are taught by 243 professors and specialist teachers, plus more than 200 contract lecturers from business and industry as well as 300 and more staff working in research and teaching, in the workshops, the administration, the libraries and the Computer Centre. More than half the studies are completed in the form of internships and work placements, for which more than 100 laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art facilities are available at the two university campuses in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. More than 660 qualified students graduate from the Hochschule Niederrhein each year ready to start a career in one of the companies in the region and beyond. The HN Niederrhein is one of first universities of applied sciences to publish its own "Graduate Lists" specifically to promote the careers of its latest cohort of graduates. Compared with their counterparts at traditional universities, graduates from the universities of applied sciences are "highly but differently qualified." The strongly export-orientated companies based in the lower Rhine know how to appreciate this quality all too well.
