Computype, Inc.'s started in 1966 when a small group of St. Paul, Minnesota investors formed a computer typesetting operation. After several changes in ownership, it came under the control of one family. In 1975 the company was primarily involved in publishing and typesetting corporate directories and the Daily Addendum and Intercept Record published for the telephone company.Computype began to provide integrated printing solutions for use at customer sites. Combining thermal transfer printers with scanners, label stock/riggon, and custom interface software, the company developed intelligent print stations for a broad range of application needs.
