John P. Hoyt, Executive Vice President of Organisational Services at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), will be moderating the European Telemedicine Conference this week in Rome. HIMSS is the largest US not-for-profit healthcare association that is committed to providing global leadership for the optimal use of information technology. HIMSS represents 52,000 individual members, over 660 corporate members and approximately 30 not-for-profit organisations.
Hoyt has been with HIMSS since 2008, when he joined them as Vice President, Healthcare Organisational Services. He led the HIMSS organisational affiliate program that enabled healthcare providers to join HIMSS as corporate members and to help them foster and grow an IT professional identity within their organisations. Hoyt is also a leading force in managing the HIMSS Senior IT Executive community that helps senior leaders connect with each other and to contribute to and advocate HIMSS objectives as well as to develop their professional careers.
Hoyt is also responsible for providing executive leadership and direction to HIMSS Analytics and other HIMSS departments that are focused on services for companies and organisations. He is actively involved in all Stage 6 and Stage 7 validations and derivative research. Stage 7 organisations and health systems are required to prove their competence in data analytics which has been utilised to improve their quality, safety and efficiency.
Throughout his time with HIMSS, Hoyt has been instrumental in defining business and IT strategy for the enterprise and has played an important role in selecting, implementing and integrating mission-critical healthcare information systems.
Hoyt holds a BS/BA in Economics from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and an MHA from St. Louis University in Missouri. Prior to HIMSS, Hoyt served in senior management and Chief Information Officer positions within several healthcare organisations and consultancy practices. These include IBM Healthlink Services, Martha Jefferson Health Services in Charlottesville, VA, and First Data Health Systems Group. Hoyt is also a HIMSS Fellow and a Fellow active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
