Angela Kennedy is the President and Board Chair of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Dr. Kennedy has been serving in this role since June 2013, after the passing of President/Chair Kathleen Frawley. AHIMA is a preeminent non-profit association for health information management (HIM) professionals who protect the accuracy of patient health information and safeguard its privacy. AHIMA has more than 7,100 members. 

Dr. Kennedy has previously served as chair of the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education and two terms as President of the Louisiana Health Information Management Association (LHIMA) She has also served on the AHIMA Board of Directors and has chaired its business and audit team.

Dr. Kennedy is a Registered Health Information Administrator and Certified Healthcare Quality Professional. She has nearly twenty four years of experience in the field of Health Information and Informatics, specifically in health information, cancer registry, medical staff services as well as quality management and quality and project management consulting for rural health information systems implementation. Dr. Kennedy has an MBA from NOVA Southeastern University, an MED from Louisiana Tech University, Bachelor of Science, Health Information Administration from Louisiana Tech University and a Certificate in Health Informatics from the University of Connecticut.

Angela's expertise and personal passion for HIM will be an asset to AHIMA."   

Dr. Kennedy is prepared for the challenges that lay ahead for her as the President of AHIMA. It is the mission of AHIMA to promote and advocate high quality research, best practices and effective standards in health information as well as contribute to the development and advancement of health information professionals worldwide.  The year ahead will involve the switch to the International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision in October. In addition, there will be challenges in the governance area with the recent revisions to HIPAA's federal privacy and security rules incorporated in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The industry as a whole will be focusing on information governance.  

Dr. Kennedy has received the LHIMA Distinguished Member Award and Career Achievement Award as well the AHIMA Triumph Award for Mentoring. She is enthusiastic about leading the Board and continuing AHIMA's work for patients, health information management professionals and the quality of health information.
