Vitacon US, has announced a strategic alliance and national distribution agreement with Pocket Nurse® Enterprises. Vitacon recently introduced the VitaScan LT Bladder Scanner and has now aligned with Pocket Nurse to market the device to US Healthcare Educators and Medical Simulation Labs.

Non-invasive scanning to measure bladder volume has become a valuable diagnostic tool in helping avoid indwelling urethral catheters, a major cause of infection. CAUTI (catheter-associated urinary tract infection) treatment is no longer reimbursed if it happens while a patient is hospitalised, thus a major incentive exists for prevention by teaching healthcare professionals to use it properly.

VitaScan LT enables real-time bladder volume measurement in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care with a new price point. The device operates via USB providing nearly limitless storage and data connectivity. VitaScan software uses intelligent targeting algorithms enabling personnel with limited training to obtain accurate measurements in seconds.

"Bringing our bladder scanning technology to universities and colleges is crucial to our long-term success," says Spencer Lien, Founder and Managing Director of Vitacon US. "The healthcare system is changing rapidly and educators must teach the next generation of healthcare workers when and how to use bladder scanners to stop the growth in costly urinary tract infections."

Anthony Battaglia, MS, BSN, RN states, "Pocket Nurse is pleased to add VitaScan to our inventory of products. Healthcare Educators can now teach bladder assessment in the classroom and simulation lab. This skill will add to their knowledge base and their ability to provide quality patient care."
