The International Society of Radiology (ISR) is an annual event held with the aim to build awareness of the significance of radiology research and its implementation in clinical practice as well as its contribution to a vast number of medical fields and patient healthcare.

The European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American College of Radiology (ACR)chose the 8th of November, which marks the 121st anniversary of the discovery of the X-ray by German physicist Wilhelm Röntgen 1895.

This year, the day is dedicated to breast imaging and the essential role that radiology plays in the detection, diagnosis and management of diseases of the breast. To achieve this purpose, the organisers are this year cooperating with the European Society of Breast Imaging (EUSOBI) and the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI).

The participation of the radiation protection campaigns EuroSafe Imaging andImage Wisely reflects another key objective of the organisers and that is to raise awareness of the necessity of reducing radiation exposure in patients.

The day is a joint initiative of the ESR, the RSNA and ACR with the cooperation of International Society of Radiology (ISR), as well as umbrella organisations on all continents, including the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology (AOSR), the Colegio Interamericano de Radiología (CIR), the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), and the Radiological Society of South Africa. The European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS) also supports the International Society of Radiology (ISR).

Many of the participating European national radiological societies, radiological subspecialty societies and allied sciences societies will arrange their own activities, such as public lectures, department open days, national media appearances and press events. In North America, numerous radiology-related societies will also take part in the International Society of Radiology (ISR). More detailed information on the activities that will be taking place around the world can be found here.
