To promote best practice and excellence in MRI Safety, during MR Safety Week (23-29 July 2018) a series of short advice sheets was released by the British Institute of Radiology (BIR) that concisely describes commonly encountered MR Conditions, why they are important and where to find some further information.
The advice sheets give practical tips and guidance on MR Safety, particularly focussing on assessing MR conditions for implanted conditions. Topic include SAR and B1+RMS, Static Magnetic Field, Maximum Spatial Gradient, Time Varying Magnetic Field Gradients and Scanning without Manufacturer’s Approval.
MRI Safety Week promotes excellence in MRI safety. This week marks the 17th anniversary of the tragic 2001 MRI accident that resulted in the preventable death of Michael Colombini, age 6, who died when a portable steel oxygen cylinder was brought into the MRI room during his MR scan.
The sheets have been produced by the BIR MR Special Interest Group (SIG) with support from the Institute of Engineers and Physicists in Medicine (IPEM) MR Special Interest Group and the British Association of MR radiographers (BAMRR).
