HIMSS has announced that Harold “Hal” Wolf III will take over as its new president and CEO in September, 2017.

Succeeding H. Stephen Lieber, who announced plans to retire as HIMSS President and CEO last December, Wolf has been a key player in the advancement of technology in healthcare through his international roles as an advisor, thought leader and consultant.

“It is a great privilege and honour to be chosen to lead HIMSS, an organisation whose purpose is to improve healthcare and care outcomes,” Wolf said. “Across the globe, healthcare is challenged to harness the power of information and technology, to solve for the unique environments of each health system and to support the personalisation of care to the individual.”

Areas of expertise include integrated care models, mhealth, product development, marketing, distribution, information technology and innovation implementation.

“Hal Wolf brings to his new role as president and CEO of HIMSS the powerful combination of broad, deep and relevant knowledge, expertise, experience, energy and accomplishments, along with a deep love of and longstanding commitment to HIMSS,” HIMSS board chair, Dr. Michael Zaroukian said.

The chair went on to comment on Wolf’s success in premier healthcare delivery organisation projects, digital strategy groups and global endeavours.

Wolf has worked with HIMSS for four years as a board advisor and member of the board of directors.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from Wake Forest University, and a Bachelor of Science in Textile Management from North Carolina State University.

Most recently, Wolf has directed The Chartis Group, an advisory and analytics services company in digital health. Prior to joining The Chartis Group, Wolf was senior vice-president and CEO of Kaiser Permanente’s Permanente Federation.

“In alliance with the growing membership of HIMSS and the expansive capabilities of our organisation, our collective task is to enable innovation across the full healthcare ecosystem,” said Wolf.
