A combined open access and subscription agreement between John Wiley & Sons Inc., an American multinational publishing company focusing on research and education, and Bibsam, a consortium of 85 higher education and research institutions operated by the National Library of Sweden, will take effect on 1 January, 2020.

As per the agreement, for three years 45 participating Swedish institutions will have access to Wiley’s subscription journals. Furthermore, their affiliated authors will be able to publish open access articles in Wiley’s journals, and all eligible researchers and students will benefit from the access to Wiley’s extended functionality through their institutional connection, at no additional charge.
Astrid Söderbergh Widding, President of Stockholm University, chair of the
negotiating group and the Bibsam Consortium's steering group, called this
agreement “an important step in our transition to open science” adding that it
would give the Bibsam members “better control over future expenses.”
Judy Verses, Executive Vice President of Wiley Research, welcomed the initiative
and underscored the importance of it for openness in research.
