This year, the International Day of Radiology (IDoR2020) will once again be celebrated this year on November 8, the day Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the existence of x-rays in 1895. The goal of IDoR is to create awareness of the value that radiology contributes to safe patient care, and highlighting the vital role radiologists and radiographers play in the healthcare continuum.

These are challenging times. The whole world is in chaos as COVID-19 continues to spread. However, one thing that stands out during this global challenge is the dedication and commitment of healthcare workers.

This year, the International Day of Radiology is dedicated to all imaging professionals and their essential role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. It is about acknowledging their contribution in the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The motto for IDoR 2020 is ‘Radiologists and radiographers supporting patients during COVID-19’. This year, we celebrate the critical role that medical imaging has played during the current crisis and we appreciate the hard work of imaging professionals across the globe, and how they have put their heart and soul in this battle.

As always, #IDoR will be jointly celebrated by the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR), with the involvement of the International Society of Radiology (ISR), and other umbrella organisations including the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology (AOSR), the Colegio Interamericano de Radiología (CIR), the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), the Radiological Society of South Africa (RSSA), The European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS) and the International Society of Radiographers & Radiological Technologists (ISRRT).

This is the day when imaging professionals across the globe can share the stories and talk about the challenges and achievements during these extremely challenging times. Let's all celebrate together and appreciate the contributions of radiologists, radiographers, radiological technologists and imaging professionals around the world.
