The theme of the event is Doing the Right Thing at the Right Time: Appropriate Imaging Utilization. This comprehensive program, featuring an impressive roster of national and international speakers, covers relevant topics for today’s radiologists and radiologists-in-training.

MSK Live Ultrasound Simulation Workshop

The CAR is proud to be offering the second MSK Live Ultrasound Simulation Workshop. Meeting participants will have the opportunity to participate in this half-day workshop, featuring focused didactic lectures on the ankle tendons and ligaments and live scanning demonstrations. Hands-on training will also be offered with dedicated instructors and real patient models. The workshop will take place in the morning of Friday April 25, 2014 and will have limited participants in order to allow for dedicated practice sessions.

Radiologists who register for the CAR 77th ASM will be given the opportunity to enrol for this workshop. Course enrolment will be limited and requires an additional fee of $100. The workshop enrolment fee will be donated to the Canadian Radiological Foundation (CRF) in the participant's name and an official tax receipt will be issued.

For Residents & Young Radiologists

Resident Review

The resident review has become a full track day over the past 2 years and has been well received by all attendees. Over 150 cases are presented as "unknowns" and reviewed through the course of the sessions. The cases cover a broad spectrum and include both practical and unusual cases in the areas of MSK, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, abdominal MRI, pediatrics and mammography. Practical teaching points and pearls are passed on. The Resident Review sessions are geared towards both residents and practicing radiologists.

Resident Hot Seat Sessions

These are small group sessions tailored for PGY2 to PGY4 residents. During the Hot Seat sessions, an expert radiologist presents cases to a small group (maximum of 6 residents each). The purpose is to enhance oral case presentation skills in preparation for the Royal College exams. The residents rotate through cases, get on-the-spot feedback, and also learn from their peers. An effort is made for francophone residents to be paired with a French-speaking radiologist.

In the past few years, all residents who have attended left the Hot Seat sessions with rave reviews, as they have benefitted tremendously from the cases, their interactions with faculty and the one-on-one attention. Many in their early residency find that the sessions help to realize the scope of radiology and what is expected as they progress through residency. Senior residents find the cases very helpful to reaffirm teaching points and help tailor their final years of studying.

Young Radiologists

A special track dedicated to young radiologists, both those in training and those in early practice, will take place on Saturday afternoon.

Among the topics presented by excellent speakers, of particular interest to participants will be those addressing work-life balance, leadership, aligning for academic promotions (including preparing your CV) and the importance of continuing professional development. Young radiologists will get time-proven, sound and common-sense advice from leaders who have been there!

7. Describe selected common head and neck disease processes encountered in community and academic practice, as well as important pathologies and their key distinguishing imaging features. (CanMEDS Role: Scholar)

The Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) 77th Annual Scientific Meeting is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and approved by the CAR for a maximum of 19 credit hours.

Participants in the Live Ultrasound Simulation Workshop – Approach to Ankle Tendons and Ligaments are eligible to claim a maximum of 9 credit-hours (3 credits per hour) under Section 3 of the RCPSC MOC program. The RCPSC recording system will automatically convert the credit-hours for this workshop to 3 credits per claimed hour (i.e., 3 hours x 3 credits = 9 credit-hours).

Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Medical Association (AMA), physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process to convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA credits can be found at www.ama-assn.org/go/internationalcme.
