Bupa has announced the appointment of Professor Melvin Samsom as a Non-Executive Director with immediate effect. This appointment brings continued clinical expertise to the Bupa Board with the imminent retirement of Professor Sir John Tooke.

Professor Samsom brings substantial international clinical and management experience from his career in gastroenterology as both a consultant and researcher, and more recently as a hospital Chief Executive at Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands and the Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden. He is also currently the Director of Health and Wellbeing for the Neom Project, a proposed new, futuristic city in Saudi Arabia.

Roger Davis, Chairman of Bupa said: “I would like to thank Sir John for his exceptional contribution to the Board over nearly a decade. As Bupa’s longstanding clinical NED, we have benefited from Sir John’s deep clinical expertise, as well as from his commitment to focusing on improving health outcomes for our customers. We are delighted to welcome Melvin to the Board and look forward to working with him. He brings valuable international clinical expertise from a number of different healthcare systems.”
