Cathmark suction catheters are a safe method for neonatal suctioning. By using the bar graph provided as a guide, the user can determine the safe maximum distance (in cm) for catheter insertion based on the infant's weight. Each catheter has calibration marks of 2 cm which enable correct tip placement, thereby reducing any pneumothorax incident in neonate suctioning. The soft distal tip also reduces tissue damage. Maximum suction efficiency can be achieved by keeping a close watch on the tip. Greater suction efficiency is achieved by a large ID and a clear thumb valve allows easy visualization of secretions.
