For transabdominal sampling of fetal blood from the umbilical cord (usually performed between the 18th and 24th pregnancy week) in case of a high risk of chromosomal and genetic abnormalities of the foetus. It is also used for cytogenetic studies, virus tests, karyotype detection and other diagnostic purposes. The accurate sharpening of the needle allows an easy and atraumatic insertion. Its mandrel is provided with an ultrasound detectable tip allowing an echo-guided insertion. The needle is provided with an adjustable stopper to determine insertion depth, and with a female luer lock connector to collect the fetal blood through a syringe. It is provided with a protection cap for a safer operational handling.
