Johnson and Johnson is currently recruiting for Government Affairs Director, Central Europe (New Consumer Health Company). This position will be in Neuss or Berlin, Germany.

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Consumer Health business to create a new publicly traded company. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 24 months, and it will be subject to legal requirements including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as required, and other customary conditions and approvals.      

 

 It is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, this position may be conveyed with New Consumer Health. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to the successful candidate by New Consumer Health at an appropriate time and would be subject to any necessary consultation processes.     

 

Position Description

 

This role is primarily responsible for leading the Germany/Central Europe GA&P function for the New Consumer Health Company, with a focus on Germany, and developing the strategic plan in partnership with the country leadership teams across the EMEA region. The Germany/Central Europe GA&P Director will work proactively to shape the external environment and influence decisions by policy makers, governments, regulatory bodies, law makers and business leaders to better position the Company, within the region, to benefit customers, shareholders, and the business to sustain and accelerate growth. This will be a unique development opportunity for a proven leader to expand their international knowledge and support key strategic initiatives in leading markets for EMEA.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Ensures robust government stakeholder and issues management plans are aligned across sectors
  • Monitors the internal and external environment to ensure corporate integrity is established and fostered consistently across the culture, products and services, leadership, and all operational aspects of the business
  • Develops a strong understanding for the Company’s business in Germany/Central Europe including our people, operations, and external operating environment
  • Creates and executes strategies to shape and influence regulations and policy in partnership with the business in Germany/Central Europe and greater corporate sustainability initiatives
  • Supports the regional Government Affairs & Policy team on digital/e-commerce related policy issues
  • Directs the activities of external consultants and leads alignment of strategy for work product in Germany/Central Europe
  • Provides leadership for executive/senior level stakeholder engagement in Germany/Central Europe
  • Works collaboratively with the global external affairs organization to represent Germany/Central Europe on projects and councils, for the functional representation
  • Provides advice and collaborates with key business leaders on governmental issues to develop contingent business strategies and or crisis management strategies
  • Acts as a leader in crisis management for issues that may occur within the market
  • Supports the development of a budget plan and implements budgetary control policies to establish financial accountability for Germany/Central Europe
  • University/Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent is required
  • 8 years related business/government facing experience particularly in advocacy and policy making
  • Strong track record in shaping the external environment in Germany
  • Extensive experience in formulating and leading significant issues management and government relations
  • A good knowledge of the industry regulatory, sustainability, digital and healthcare policy environment coupled with a strong ability to clearly articulate a plan that enables the Company to understand the risks, opportunities and implications of industry/government initiatives that may impact the business with strategies to manage issues both proactively and reactively
  • Ability to interface, develop rapport, and be articulate with Senior Leadership from the Company and with external high-level positions, Political Leaders, Regulatory Leaders, etc.
  • Ability to connect the right people and processes to deliver key business outcomes
  • Able to foster and develop leaders to meet the growing demands of the Company
  • Experience of working for government, consultancy, association or a large international company
  • Proven ability to lead project teams and manage external consultants
  • Ability to manage internal budgets to strategic planning process
  • Fluency in English and German
