International medical imaging IT company Sectra announces that two additional  acute hospitals in Wales, UK, have gone live with Sectra’s solution for digital sharing of patient images and reports between hospitals, Image Exchange Portal (IEP). All acute hospitals in Wales now have access to Sectra IEP, enabling faster and more secure image transfer and thus more efficient patient care.

The first acute hospital in Wales went live with Sectra IEP in 2012, followed by other acute hospitals in the country. The latest two, Cwm Taf University Health Board and Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board, are now live as well and are able to share patient images and reports digitally. There is a total of seven acute hospitals in Wales, taking care of the country’s 3.15 million habitants.

Hospitals using Sectra IEP no longer rely exclusively on burning and transporting CD’s to share radiology images. Sectra IEP is already used by multiple acute hospitals within Scotland, by the majority of UK private healthcare providers as well as by all of the English NHS acute trusts (English National Health Service). The result is more than 70,000 radiology studies (approximately 20 million images) being transferred across the UK during an average week.

“The Sectra IEP deployed throughout Wales has significantly improved the transfer of radiology images. It has facilitated the work of users of all staff grades, many of whom work outside radiology, to request and transfer images in a fast and secure way,” says Tom Henderson, PACS Manager at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

With more than 20 years of innovation and 1,700 installations, Sectra is a leading global provider of imaging IT solutions that support healthcare in achieving patient-centric care. Sectra offers an Enterprise Image Management solution comprising PACS for imaging-intense departments (radiology, pathology, cardiology, orthopaedics), VNA and Cross Enterprise Workflow solutions. For the third consecutive year in the US and the second consecutive year globally, Sectra PACS has been awarded 'Best in KLAS' for highest customer satisfaction.
