The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) has launched  continuous professional development (CPD) questions on selected articles in BJR and BJR|case reports. The Institute has previously provided CPD for its multidisciplinary community through educational events and online resources, so extending this to its journals was a natural next step. “It is a way for our users to demonstrate they are maintaining good practice and keeping up with developments.” said the BIR’s Head of Publishing, Sophia Anderton. It will be  a way for readers to meet professional standards and could be a source of information to help with appraisals” .

Articles with CPD questions will have at least 5 peer reviewed questions to complete. After reading the article, the associated CPD questions can be completed. A pass rate of at least 75% is required to be awarded a certificate for the task. Certificates will be available to download at any time.

Dr Nicholas Screaton, BIR Vice President of Publications said, “This is an invaluable addition to the BIR’s journals and will be a vital resource for anyone who wants to test their knowledge and obtain a certificate for their portfolio.”

The BIR has incorporated CPD questions into the editorial process for all BJR titles to ensure the list of articles with CPD questions continues to grow. We encourage authors to create multiple choice questions to challenge the reader’s understanding of what they have read. Authors can add questions to complement their manuscript and they will be peer reviewed at the same time as the paper.

CPD questions and certificates are free to all users for a limited time only. At the end of the introductory offer, they will remain free for BIR members. The list of available CPD questions with links to their related articles can be found on the BIR publications website www.birpublications/exams
