This year’s Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) will feature a newly expanded Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub as the technology becomes increasingly embedded in imaging processes.

AI innovations from industry leaders, AI in action at the RSNA AI Theater, and AI solutions in the RSNA Deep Learning Classroom will all be showcased at this year’s meeting that starts on December 1 in Chicago.
Several RSNA leaders and AI proponents have voiced their enthusiasm about the role that AI, Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) are playing in the present and future of radiology practice.
“The value of AI in radiology goes well beyond detecting abnormalities in images,” said Charles Kahn, Jr, chair of the RSNA Radiology Informatics Committee (RIC).
Dr. Kahn is also professor and vice chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine.
“It’s going to help in everything from selecting imaging procedures and protocols to making a diagnosis to communicating that diagnosis to our referring colleagues and patients.”
Luciano Prevedello, vice chair of Medical Informatics and Augmented Intelligence in Imaging and associate professor of radiology at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Centre in Columbus says AI, ML and DL will lead to improved patient care through eliminating time-consuming tasks currently performed by radiologists.
“By automating some of the repetitive tasks that radiologists do on a daily basis, AI can make our workflow more efficient – which is key to providing better patient care,” he said.
Everything AI-related from the latest scientific research to tech innovation will take to the floor in the AI Hub. In addition to existing AI-imaging practices, there will be many emerging technology events taking centre stage.
“We’ll have 61 educational courses in informatics and AI will have a big presence both within the informatics track and throughout the clinical tracks,” said Dr. Kahn.
The key features of the RSNA’s expanded AI Showcaseinclude:
- More than 120 companies offering the chance to try AI software and watch product demonstrations;
- Connection with industry leaders;
- RSNA AI theatre;
- Exhibitor-led hands-on workshops; and
- The DL Classroom.
