According to new research from IMV, clinical PET patient studies increased 14.7% from 2008 to 2010, as sites continue to install PET imaging units and increase their capacity to perform procedures.

The 2011 PET Imaging Market Summary Report from IMV shows an average annual procedure growth of ~7% from 2008 to 2010. An estimated 1.7 million clinical PET patient studies were performed in 2,085 hospital and non-hospital locations using fixed or mobile PET/CT or PET scanners.

The increase in sites with fixed PET or PET/CT scanners has improved access to this technology. Over half of all PET imaging providers have fixed PET imaging units rather than using a mobile provider. This is a change from 2008 when about one-third of the providers had a fixed units. The total number of sites offering PET scans increased from about 2,000 sites in 2008 to 2,085 sites in 2010.

IMV's new PET Imaging Market Summary Report describes market trends in procedures, installed equipment, equipment purchase plans, radiopharmaceutical utilization and staffing as described by over 600 PET imaging locations.
