The agreement signed by VU University Medical Centre and Royal Phillips Electronics has initiated the development and validation of next generation medical imaging procedures, with initial projects focused on nuclear and optical imaging techniques.

Multi-modality imaging solutions may help clinicians in the early detection of diseases such as cancer and neurological and cardiovascular diseases. Combining data from different imaging modalities could help with intervention as well as contribute more personalised treatments.

The joint research projects will explore new imaging agents such as disease-specific contrast agents and tracers, as well as develop software for quantitative image analysis and data presentation. Research for other modalities are currently being prepared.
