Who attends the various MIR meetings and what is the difference between the MIR annual congress and the MIR workshops?

MIR meetings are attended mainly by radiologists, but also by non-medical radiology managers, radiographers (technologists), IT personnel and some vendors of imaging equipment. The MIR annual congress takes the form of themed sessions, each with three or four invited keynote lectures and some short proffered papers. The proffered papers are selected, based upon a marked scoring system, by the programme committee of the MIR Board. Registration for the MIR congress includes the gala dinner: an excellent opportunity for networking as well as enjoying this friendly social event!

The MIR winter workshops are smaller, much more interactive, educational courses dedicated to exploring and learning about particular management skills. There is usually a mixture of whole group teaching sessions, and break-out small group sessions.

In general, MIR winter workshops are attended by established consultant (staff) radiologists wishing to improve their management skills, but in recent years a larger number of young radiologists have also been coming. The atmosphere is always friendly and relaxed. The workshop runs over 2 days (Thursday until Saturday midday) with a full morning session from 8 or 8:30am until 12:30pm.
