Congress Main Topic 2022:

Post-Treatment Imaging Special aspects of established and most recent treatment procedures and the principal questions the radiologist has to answer following musculoskeletal interventions will be approached. Thus, we learn about treatment methods, we will learn hints and tricks, and understand the needs and expectations of our clinical partners like orthopaedic and trauma surgeons and of our musculoskeletal interventional radiologists.

Post-Treatment Imaging

The ESSR 2022 main topic will be post-treatment imaging. Special aspects of established and most recent treatment procedures and the principal questions the radiologist has to answer following musculoskeletal interventions will be approached. Thus, we learn about treatment methods, we will learn hints and tricks, and understand the needs and expectations of our clinical partners like orthopaedic and trauma surgeons and of our musculoskeletal interventional radiologists.

Learning Objectives

Focus 1: How to monitor systemic skeletal disorders?
a. To understand the role of monitoring arthritis with plain films
b. To learn about findings in MRI and ultrasound concerning the monitoring of modern treatment schemes in arthritis
c. To get acquainted with seronegative spondyloarthropathy and its treatment monitoring
d. To intensify knowledge about how to monitor SKIBO (skin and bone) diseases

Focus 2: How to monitor healing of fractures, of muscle as well as tendon tears?
a. To understand the role of radiology in assessing bone healing
b. To learn about delayed fracture healing
c. To get acquainted with the assessment of muscle tears and the healing of tears
d. To be aware of cartilage repair techniques and their appearance in imaging

Focus 3: How to monitor tumours?
a. To understand the tumor surgeon’s role of stabilizing primary and secondary bone tumors
b. To learn how to obtain sufficient samples from imaging-guided biopsies
c. To get acquainted with collateral effects of radiation- and chemotherapy on the musculoskeletal system with focus on bone marrow seronegative spondyloarthropathy and its treatment monitoring
d. To intensify knowledge about Postoperative and posttherapeutic changes in soft tissue tumors
e. To learn the specific issues and requests when monitoring bone tumours
f. To deepen the understanding for the specific issues and requests when monitoring bone metastases

Focus 4: How to evaluate hardware complications?
a. To get acquainted with the types of endoprotheses a radiologist should know
b. To understand the role of stabilization regarding post-treatment imaging of the vertebral column
c. To learn the radiological assessment of rotational malalignment of endoprosthesis
d. To get acquainted with the radiological assessment of loosening of endoprosthesis
e. To be aware of the imaging findings of postoperative infection of endoprostheses

Focus 5: How to evaluate post-treatment imaging of the lower limbs?
a. To get acquainted with surgical techniques in ligament, meniscal and cartilage repair
b. To understand the role of imaging for evaluating the ankle joint after treatment
c. To learn about postoperative findings after cruciate and collateral ligaments repair
d. To get acquainted with postoperative and post-interventional musculoskeletal imaging findings following hip preservation surgery, deformity correction, and hip arthroplasty
e. To be aware of the imaging findings of meniscal repair techniques

Focus 6: How to evaluate post-treatment imaging of the upper limbs?
a. To get acquainted with repair techniques of the rotator cuff and glenoid rim and what the orthopedic surgeon wants to know from the radiologist
b. To understand the role of imaging for evaluating rotator cuff repair
c. To learn about normal and abnormal imaging findings after surgery of the glenoid and glenolabral complex
d. To get acquainted with post-treatment imaging of the elbow
e. To be aware of the imaging findings of the hand and wrist after treatment

Focus 7: How to evaluate post-treatment imaging of the spine?
a. To get acquainted with the radiological appearance of the normal spine after treatment
b. To understand the role of imaging for evaluating the vertebral column after surgery of discs
c. To learn about post treatment imaging findings of new treatment techniques for the intervertebral discs
d. To get acquainted with post-treatment imaging of the spondylodiscitis
e. To be aware of the imaging findings of the treated scoliosis
