JRC 2020 - Japan Radiology Congress

It is my great honor to host the 79th Annual Meeting of the Japan Radiological Society (JRS) Congress which will be held in Yokohama, Japan on 9–12 April 2020. The Year 2020 is the second Tokyo Olympic Year, since the first Tokyo Olympics in 1964.

The main themes of the annual meeting in English and Japanese are “The Power of Imaging” and “Issun–no–Koin (Flashing Moment)”, respectively. Recently, there has been significant progress in the field of medical imaging using artificial intelligence (AI). Radiology is the leader in medical AI, and its role is expected to become increasingly important. Radiology has achieved remarkable progress in the past 30 years (Heisei Era) and will facilitate further progress if we seize every “flashing moment”. However, we may be overwhelmed with excess information if we are not prudent. The main themes: “The power of Imaging” and “Issun–no–Koin (Flashing Moment)”, reflect these circumstances and our wish to assemble with a sense of tension for JRS 2020.

Japan has the largest number of CT and MRI devices per population in the world. Abundant practical experience with continuous efforts for improvement (Kaizen in Japanese) by sincere Japanese often raises procedures to the level of art. When the power of young people harnesses this accumulated wisdom, there will be further advancement in the new era (Reiwa). I am planning to develop a program that is full of opportunities and appeals to everyone. I look forward to seeing you at the annual meeting – a conference to discuss The Power of Imaging, and sharing “A Flashing Moment” with you in Yokohama.
