TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is designed for emergency medicine health care professionals. It
also provides an excellent educational opportunity for physicians and allied health professionals who are peripherally involved in the management of ill or injured patients.

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND

As the first line of defense against injury and illness, emergency medicine providers serve an extraordinary public safety function. Health care delivery models, reimbursement, and the technical care of medical and trauma patients is changing rapidly. Based upon participant evaluations, survey feedback, and other assessment methods, the need for cutting edge updates about emergency medicine has been identified. This course is designed
to change provider knowledge and competence in areas identified in the needs assessments, including:
• Airway Management Lab
• Point-of-Care Ultrasound Lab
• Traumatic Injuries
• Poisonings
• EKG Interpretation
• Pediatric Emergencies
• Critical Care
• Physician Wellness
• Pain Management

EDUCATIONAL METHODS

Speakers will present materials in lecture format as well as hands-on practical skills stations. Q&A will be used to facilitate the dissemination of up-to-date information.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the end of the activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify and use proper equipment for difficult airway management
  • Select and dose appropriate antidotes and reversal agents for acute poisonings and anticoagulants
  • Prioritize management options in multisystem trauma patients
  • Incorporate point-of-care ultrasound into routine emergency practice
  • Apply evidence-based decision making during critical trauma management
