SSAI is an umbrella organization of the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Societies of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden and hosts a congress every other year, alternating between the five countries. The congress is international and usually gathers around 800-1000 participants from all over the world. Local Scandinavian flavour comes from to our special organizational and geographical conditions such as our well-educated registered nurse anaesthetists, an integrated anaestheisa and intensive care and sparsely populated northern regions. The congress language is English.

Why the silly theme?
The theme of the congress “Bridging Basic Science and Clinical Practice” is inspired by our collaboration with Lund University, founded in 1666, and its extensive array of experimental research and deep knowledge in the fundamental disciplines supporting our specialty, ranging from biochemistry, via microbial pathogenesis to physics and clinical measurement. This special collaboration will be shown in a series of update lectures in basic science for established specialists as well as for our residents preparing for their exams.
