7th Annual SWAAC ELSO Conference 2020

The South West Asia and Africa Chapter of the Extra Corporeal Life Support Organisation (SWAAC ELSO) is the chapter that South Africa belongs to and it is a huge honour for us to host the next conference. As we highlight not only South Africa, but also this aspect of advanced critical care, creating an opportunity for us all to learn from each other…. Ubuntu!

Ubuntu- what we can learn from each other

The developing and developed worlds meet

Ubuntu is the Zulu word meaning “humanity” and it is often translated as “I am because we are” or “humanity towards others”. It is often used in a more philosophical sense to convey the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.

​

This theme for the 7th SWAAC ELSO Conference epitomises the philosophy of the local South African ECMO community, where training and education is the most important aspect of ECLS delivery. SWAAC ELSO is an opportunity for the local and international communities to meet and share their knowledge, experience and humanity and learn from each other, with holistic ECMO management in ICU being the focus of this conference.

A range of topics will be covered for both paediatrics and adults by international and national experts during this focused conference and we invite all physicians (Cardiothoracic surgeons, Cardiologists, Intensivists, Specialist Physicians, Paediatricians, General Surgeons, Vascular Surgeons, and Anaesthesiologists), nursing staff, perfusionists, industry and all other interested persons to come and join us at the Indaba Hotel and Conference Centre on the 20th to the 22nd of February 2020!
