May has just passed, and with it came the opportunity to celebrate nurses and the extraordinary contribution our profession makes every day. This year, I had the honour of attending the Florence Nightingale Foundation's special commemoration service at Westminster Abbey in London. This experience will remain one of the highlights of my nursing career.

Joining 2,400 fellow nurses from across the profession was both humbling and inspiring. From the moment I entered Westminster Abbey, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and belonging. The atmosphere was filled with unity, respect, and a shared commitment to nursing.

As nurses, we work in increasingly challenging healthcare environments. Many healthcare systems around the world are under significant pressure, with funding and resources becoming ever more stretched. Yet despite these challenges, nurses continue to deliver exceptional care, demonstrating resilience, compassion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to their patients.

The speeches delivered during the service reflected these realities. While acknowledging the immense pressures facing healthcare today, the speakers also highlighted the vital role nurses play in building communities, supporting one another, and maintaining the highest standards of care. Their words were both honest and uplifting.

Throughout the service, I found myself reflecting on what it means to be a nurse. I felt incredibly proud to be part of such a remarkable profession – to be StaN Nurse Sabine, committed to providing the highest standard of patient care possible every single day.

The Florence Nightingale Foundation commemoration service was more than a celebration; it was a powerful reminder of the strength, unity, and impact of nursing. It is an experience that will always hold a special place in my heart and one that I will never, ever forget.
