European healthcare systems are among the best in the world. And yet, in Europe, the influenza disease still claims more lives than traffic accidents. Influenza is, however, a preventable disease.

To lower the impact of influenza on public health in Europe, the European Scientific Working group on Influenza (ESWI) intends to bring together all influenza stakeholders at the first European Flu Summit.

The concept of the one-day meeting is to provide influenza stakeholder organisations with a platform to exchange good practices and to initiate concrete actions. The Summit will be an action-oriented event with participants including healthcare professionals, public health officials, organisations of at-risk patients and senior citizens, and other public and private organisations that have an interest in addressing and resolving influenza issues.

The US National Influenza Vaccine Summit is an important partner in the organisation of the first EU Flu Summit. Having been organised annually since 2000, the US Summit now has over 400 members who represent over 100 public and private organisations.
