Jordan has undertaken a harsh approach to a full lockdown from the early onset of COVID-19. Several factors had a positive impact for success including the activation of good governance and effectuation of decentralization. Additionally, Jordan has seen good response given its investment over the years in quality and patient safety through accreditation and capacity building.
As an example, Irbid, one of Jordan’s 12 governorates with more than 20% of its population, was hit hard with the pandemic. The government established and granted full authority to a regional committee to support Irbid in its fight against COVID19. In a short period, the committee, focusing on three pillars, Surveillance, Case Management, and Good Governance, was able to control the situation despite the Governorate's unique diversity, social fabric, and high-profile educational institutions which posed both a challenge and an opportunity.
Attend this webinar to understand the role of decentralization in controlling the COVID-19 epidemic in Irbid, what aspects of governance were necessary to deal with the crisis, the importance of horizontal integration and having good quality and patient safety building blocks in place.
