“Ultimately, healthcare affects the people we love: parents, grandparents, children, friends,” said Adam Gale, CEO and cofounder of KLAS Research. “Every improvement in healthcare circles back to benefit the people we care about most deeply. For me, that is why the frustration and exertion of improving healthcare will always be worth it.”

Key Learnings from 2025

EHR Purchasing Finally Rebounds to Pre-Pandemic Levels. Organizations outside the US continue to make the EHR a high priority—nearly half of those interviewed say an EHR project will be one of their top areas of investment over the next two years. Additionally, EHR purchasing in most regions—the exception being Latin America—has largely recovered from the slowdown seen during the COVID-19 pandemic. KLAS’ 2024 Global EHR Market Share report (which reports on purchasing trends from 2023) found that after three consecutive years of slower activity, EHR purchasing outside the US has rebounded. Thanks to large regional decisions in Australia, France, and Italy, the total number of hospitals impacted by a purchase decision in 2023 surpassed pre-pandemic levels; the number of beds impacted was the highest seen since 2019.

AI Widely Used & Considered in Imaging; Ambient Speech Gaining Ground. AI solutions are actively being pursued on a global scale. With Australia, Canada, and Europe (especially the UK) leading the charge, 42% of global PACS clients interviewed by KLAS about their usage and consideration of AI technology report that they have purchased an AI solution (compared to 52% in the US), and most plan to add additional AI technology. While some are still in the implementation phase or have rolled out a solution to only part of their organization, there are numerous use cases for pixel AI solutions for stroke, chest x-ray, bone fracture, and age determination. Aside from those that have already purchased an AI solution, another one-third of respondents are currently in the market. Pathology departments that are implementing digital image management solutions (often for the first time) tend to leapfrog their radiology counterparts and start immediately with AI. Over half of non-US digital pathology clients interviewed said they are live with an algorithm, and an additional 11% are currently validating an AI solution. As for AI solutions outside of imaging, there is a lot of buzz among both healthcare organizations and IT vendors around ambient speech. KLAS published our first report on ambient speech technology in the US in 2024. To date, there has been limited adoption of these solutions outside the US; what has been reported has been mostly in Europe.
