World Obesity will host the first regional obesity congress in the Middle East. The theme is achieveing the UN targets by 2025.
To meet the UN targets for ‘no increase in obesity by 2025’ the region has to invest in effective treatment services and effective prevention measures at local and national level.
The summit and congress will examine what services will be needed by 2025 and will examine the benefits of different approaches to weight management, weight reduction, and the prevention of weight gain and weight re-gain.
The agenda will be delivered by renowned regional and international faculty. This is a two day congress with a mixture of lectures, discussions, symposiums, abstract presentations, posters and exhibition.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the Summit, participants will understand the policy context for the UN obesity targets, and will understand what this means in practice: this includes the effectiveness of different approaches to managing obesity and the value of preventive interventions that maintain health in the general population and prevent weight re-gain among patients.
Practitioners will gain understanding of how to talk to patients, the treatment options available based on state-of-the art demonstrations of the role of surgical, pharmaceutical, behavioural and other weight management interventions, and will gain insights into the prevention of obesity in the community and the prevention of the complications of obesity in clinical practice. Topics highly relevant to the Gulf region will be considered, including the best means of promoting physical activity, the complications of dietary interventions in Ramadan, the treatment of adolescents with obesity, and options for weight management during pregnancy.
Target Audience
Healthcare professionals working in clinical practice including: dieticians, nutritionists, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, nurses, physiotherapists, physical activity specialists, primary care practitioners, obesity medicine specialists and surgeons.
