The development of high quality, low cost health care depends on massive innovation in the way services are actually delivered. This is recognised by a new award programme - The HBI Business Model Innovation Awards - set up by publisher Healthcare Business International and in association with KPMG.

A panel of judges will assess entries, which will be awarded at a gala dinner on 4 April, 2017 at the Healthcare Business International 2017 conference.

The seven awards are for operators who can demonstrate scalable and successful new approaches that cut costs and/or improve quality of treatment. Innovation can involve the use of ehealth and telehealth, but it can also come from new ways of quickly training people, from cutting costs, from changing corporate cultures or from measuring and improving quality outcomes. “Advances in medical science don’t always deliver truly excellent health care at the right price. Rather, it is the way such services are delivered by operators – hospital groups, outpatient networks, labs, elderly care operators,” said Dr Mark Britnell, Chairman and Partner of the Global Health Practice at KPMG. “Innovation can involve the use of ehealth and telehealth, but it can also come from new ways of quickly training people, from re-engineering costs, from changing corporate cultures or from measuring and improving quality outcomes.”

The aim is to show case not only the winners, but also the runners up during the conference. The case studies will also be covered extensively on the Healthcare Business International website.

All the awards are open to private operators or NGOs in every sub-sector of the health care services industry from elderly care through to acute care, all aspects of outpatient services, laboratory and imaging service providers.

For the first time, 2016 saw the involvement of Emerging Market delegates who alongside their European counterparts raised the total number of delegates attending this years conference to nearly 500.

Once again CEO’s dominated at 42% of delegates, with CxOs making up 79% reflecting the fact that this elite event must feature in any private healthcare executive’s calendar. The event has taken place in the Royal College of Physicians for the past two years but we have sadly outgrown this beautiful and fitting venue, so this year’s conference will move to the QEII Centre next to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. An equally impressive building and venue with a capacity for 800 delegates!
