WHAT: The 40th Annual SCAI Scientific Sessions will take place May 10-13, 2017, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside in New Orleans. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the first angioplasty procedure which revolutionized medical science, SCAI 2017 will attract more than 1,500 interventional cardiologists and cardiovascular professionals from across the globe for a dynamic four-day program featuring live cases, renowned speakers, late-breaking clinical trials, case reviews, abstract presentations, and interactive workshops.

SCAI 2017 Scientific Sessions Highlights

If you can only attend one Interventional / Invasive Cardiology education meeting this year, it should be the Best of the Best, SCAI 2017 Scientific Sessions.

  • SCAI’s Cath Lab Leadership Boot Camp
  • Late-breaking clinical trials and real-world analysis
  • Keynote speaker Arianna Huffington
  • Live case presentations, Hildner, Mullins and Founders’ lectures, and “40th Anniversary of SCAI & Angioplasty” session presented in the new Main Arena

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of SCAI 2017 Scientific Sessions, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the most recent scientific advances, clinical evidence, challenges and opportunities within the field of interventional cardiovascular or congenital heart disease;
  • Recognize the appropriate diagnostic studies for evaluation of acute coronary syndromes and summarize new pharmacologic and interventional approaches to the management of patients;
  • Appropriately select newly developed devices and therapies for treatment of cardiovascular disease to improve early and late clinical outcomes after coronary/peripheral/structural heart disease interventions;
  • Implement quality-based practices, including appropriate use criteria, clinical guidelines, consistent documentation and assignment of quality metrics for interventional procedures;
  • Collaborate with cath lab team members to optimize operations and meet new regulatory requirements, such as MACRA;
  • Assess the latest techniques, technologies, and therapies (medical and interventional) for structural heart disease, congenital heart disease and peripheral vascular disease.

Target Audience

SCAI 2017 Scientific Sessions represent a unique forum driven by issues of the day in invasive and interventional cardiology and are of special interest to:

  • Invasive, interventional, and general cardiologists, as well as general internists and other physician specialists
  • Pediatricians specializing in congenital heart disease
  • Fellows-in-training
  • Members of the Cardiovascular Cath Lab Team, including cath lab nurses, technologists, radiologic technologists, technicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners
  • Hospital administrators
  • Quality improvement specialists

SPEAKERS: SCAI 2017 is thrilled to announce that Arianna Huffington will provide the keynote address for this year's annual meeting. Ms. Huffington is the visionary behind the Huffington Post, as well as the author of fifteen books, including the New York Times bestseller The Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time. The message around The Sleep Revolution is critical to the members of the interventional cardiovascular community, who by the nature of their occupation, often suffer from the effects of interrupted and reduced sleep.

Speakers include:

  • Keynote Address: Arianna Huffington, Author of The Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time

  • Featured Lecture: Anne LeGrand, Vice President, Imaging, IBM Watson Health

  • Founders' Lecture: Christopher J. White, MD, MSCAI, Director, John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute, Ochsner Clinic Foundation

  • Hildner Lecture: Morton J. Kern, MD, MSCAI, Chief of Medicine, Long Beach VA Health Care System

  • Mullins Lecture: Lee N. Benson, MD, FSCAI, Director, Cardiac Diagnostic and Interventional Unit, The Hospital for Sick Children
